Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra Yojana has been launched by the Government of India. This scheme has been started for the economically weaker citizens. Generic medicines will be made available to the citizens at low cost through Jan Aushadhi Kendra. These medicines will be as effective as the branded medicines. The decision to launch the Pradhanmantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra Yojana was taken by the Pharma Advisory Forum in a meeting held on 23rd April 2008. It was decided to open one outlet in each district under the scheme. These centers will be opened in 734 districts of the country.

The scheme will be administered by the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Bureau of India. Which was started in the year 2008 under the Department of Pharmaceuticals. Quality generic medicines will be made available at affordable prices to the citizens of the country by the implementing agency. Apart from this, medicines will be procured from Central Pharma Public Sector Undertakings and Private Sectors and the scheme will be monitored.

The main objective of Pradhanmantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra is to provide medicines at affordable prices to the citizens of the country. Through this scheme, generic medicines will be made available at low cost. These medicines will be as effective as the branded medicines. Now all the economically weaker citizens of the country will be able to get medicines. This scheme will prove to be effective in improving the health of the citizens of the country. Apart from this, the standard of living of the citizens of the country will improve through this scheme. Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra will also provide employment opportunities to many citizens. Due to which the unemployment rate of the country will also fall.

Benefits and features of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra

Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra Yojana has been launched by the Government of India.

814.21 crore has been sold through this scheme in the financial year 2022-23.
Through which about 4800 crore rupees have been saved for the citizens.

Margins and Incentives of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra

A margin of 20% will be provided by the operating agency on the MRP of each drug.
Special incentive: Special incentive will be provided to women entrepreneurs, disabled, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and Jan Aushadhi Kendras opened in backward areas. ₹ 200000 will be given to the entrepreneurs in addition to the normal incentive. In which ₹ 150000 will be provided for furniture and fixtures and ₹ 50000 for computer, internet, printer, scanner etc. This amount will be a one-time grant. Which will be provided only on payment of the bill. This amount will be limited to the actual expenditure only.
Normal Incentive: A grant of up to ₹ 500000 will be provided to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra run by other entrepreneurs / pharmacists / NGOs etc. Which will be encouraged at the rate of 15% of the monthly purchase made from PMBI. A maximum of ₹15000 will be provided in a month. Whose total limit will be ₹ 500000. This incentive will also be provided to women entrepreneurs, disabled, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras opened in backward districts.

Mandatory structure for opening Jan Aushadhi Kendra

120 feet of own or rented space The applicant will have to himself arrange the space for running the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra supported by proper lease agreement or space allotment letter.
Certificate of obtaining Pharmacist
If the applicant belongs to the category of women entrepreneur, disabled, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and any entrepreneur of the aspirational district which has been notified by NITI Aayog, such applicant will have to submit the certificate.
In all the districts where the population is more than 10 lakh, in this situation it is mandatory to have a distance of 1 kilometer between the two centers.
In the district where the population is less than 10 lakh, in this situation it is mandatory to have a distance of one and a half kilometer between the two centers.

Application Fee Under Pradhanmantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra

Under this scheme, a non-refundable application fee of ₹ 5000 will be deposited along with the application form.
Application fee will not be received from women entrepreneurs, Divyang, SC, ST and any entrepreneur from aspirational districts notified by NITI Aayog.

Some important guidelines related to Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra

The center operator will have to sign an agreement before opening the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra will be operated with government guidelines.
It will be the responsibility of the applicant to obtain a drug license in the name of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra and to obtain other permission to run a drug shop.
It will also be the responsibility of the applicant to comply with all the statutory requirements.
The applicant shall use the premises only for the purpose for which it is allotted.
All billing will be done using software provided by PMBI. No medicine can be sold without using the software.
The operator shall not be permitted to sell any medicine other than the products of PMBI.
Goods will be supplied against advance payment for dispatch.

Role of PMBI under PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra

All necessary support will be provided by PMBI for proper implementation of this scheme.
The PMBI will also provide the facility of supply of generic medicines, surgical items etc. to the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra through its supply chain.

Eligibility for opening Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra

Individual applicant must have a degree in D Pharma / B Pharma or it is mandatory to appoint a degree holder. Proof of which will have to be submitted at the time of submission of application or at the time of final approval.
If the Prime Minister wants to open an NGO or organization, then it is mandatory to appoint a B Pharma or D Pharma degree holder and it is mandatory to submit proof of this at the time of submission of application or at the time of final approval.
In government hospitals and medical colleges, priority will be given to non-government organizations and charitable organizations for opening Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras in hospital premises.
