The e-taxi scheme has been launched by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on 20 November 2023. This scheme has been formally launched under the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Scheme with a budget of Rs 680 crore. Under the E Taxi-Scheme, the state government will provide 50 percent subsidy along with guarantee of employment to the unemployed youth on purchasing e-taxi. Due to which the youth will be able to earn by buying e-taxi without any financial crisis.

Under this scheme, if any youth wants to buy an e-taxi worth Rs 20 lakh, then he will be given a grant of Rs 10 lakh by the government. This scheme will help those buying E-Taxi and E-Bus by the Labor Department if they take loan through banks. Let us tell you that Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to start such a scheme. To avail benefits under the e-taxi scheme, the youth will have to register on the portal within a month.

Objective of Himachal Pradesh E-Taxi Scheme
Himachal Pradesh is a hilly area. In such a situation, there is a huge shortage of employment here. That is why, with the aim of providing employment to the unemployed youth of Himachal Pradesh, the government has started the above scheme. Apart from this, the government is also gradually introducing electronic vehicles in the government departments of Himachal Pradesh, so that the pollution caused by petrol and diesel vehicles reduces and the environmental pollution in Himachal Pradesh is reduced. Thus, the main objective of the scheme is to provide employment to the unemployed youth and to reduce the pollution present in the environment in Himachal Pradesh.

500 permits will be issued for e-taxi in the first phase
In the first phase of the e-taxi scheme, 500 permits will be issued for e-taxi and in the future, the number of permits will be increased depending on the demand. To provide a fixed source of income to the unemployed youth of the state through this scheme, e-taxi will be made available to the government departments in a phased manner. The state government is giving 50% subsidy to the youth for purchasing e-taxi. Along with this, the conditions for decision under this scheme will also be relaxed so that the loan can be repaid easily.

Loan will be available without any guarantee
Under the Himachal E-Taxi Scheme, the youth of the state will be provided loans without any guarantee for the purchase of e-buses and e-taxis. This scheme of Himachal Pradesh has been started with the aim of making it a green state by the year 2026. This scheme will prove to be a milestone in providing employment as well as reducing air pollution and making Himachal Pradesh a green energy state by 31 March 2026.
24 permits issued for E-Bus
Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has said that to provide employment to the youth of the state, the government is purchasing 300 e-buses in the first phase. The government wants to replace around 3,000 buses of Himachal Pradesh Government Transport Corporation (HRTC) with e-taxis and replace them with a fleet of e-buses. Soon 350 e-buses will be purchased by the government under this scheme. To encourage e-buses in the private sector, the government will purchase 1,500 e-buses in 3 years. For this, the government has issued 24 e-bus permits out of total 107 permits. Under this scheme, a subsidy of Rs 50 lakh will be given by the Himachal Pradesh government for an e-bus costing Rs 1 crore.
Charging stations will be installed for charging e-taxi
Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has said that infrastructure is being prepared for charging of e-vehicles in the state. Under this scheme, 17 e-charging stations for charging of E-Taxi will be ready in the next 2 months. And along with this, the transport department is also setting up e-charging stations. Charging station facility will be available at 17 petrol pumps in 12 districts. Transport and electricity boards will also install charging stations at their levels. With the availability of this facility, the beneficiaries will be freed from the hassle of filling petrol or diesel.
Eligibility Criteria of Himachal E-Taxi Scheme
Some eligibility criteria have been set by the Himachal Pradesh government for the Himachal Pradesh e-Taxi scheme launched in the state, the details of which are as follows.
- The applicant must be a genuine Himachali.
- The minimum age of the applicant should be 23 years and the applicant should have 7 years of driving experience.
- Only one person in a family can avail the benefit of this scheme.
- The minimum educational qualification of the applicant should be 10+2 from any recognized school education board/institution.

E-Taxi Scheme Subsidy
The following subsidies will be provided to the beneficiary under the e-Taxi scheme:
- 50 percent subsidy on purchase of e-taxi: Under the scheme, youth will be provided 50 percent subsidy on purchase of e-taxi, which will enable them to buy an e-taxi at a more affordable price.
- 5 percent interest subsidy for operating HP e-Taxi: Youth will also get 5 percent interest subsidy on loans for operating e-Taxi, which will reduce the financial pressure for their loans.
- 25 percent subsidy on insurance of e-taxi: 25 percent subsidy will also be provided on insurance of e-taxi, which will provide financial assistance to the youth for vehicle safety.

- Document Upload: Upload Documents Driving License, Himachali Bonafide, Unemployment Certificate, Aadhar Card, Date of Birth Certificate, 12th Certificate.
- Credentials (Create Password): Applicant can create his/her own password after OTP verification. The email ID of the applicant will be the user login ID of the applicant.
- Payment will be through CTP: Pay the application fee of Rs 20/- online by selecting the payment method such as credit card, debit card or digital wallet.
- Confirmation: Confirmation of successful registration will be sent to the applicant via email and SMS.
