Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme 2024
TS Aasara pension scheme was launched by the Chief Minister previously in the year 2014 to provide pensions to all people including Widows, HIV patients, etc so that they can provide for their families and live a happy life. Now the scheme has been renewed in the year 2020 and the pension amount has been increased so that each and every one of the beneficiaries can get more benefits from the Telangana Aasara Scheme. They will now have no need to go to work because they are unhealthy.
Telangana finance minister in the annual budget session for the fiscal year 2022-23 on 7 March 2022 allocated Rs. 11,728 crores to the Aasara Pension Scheme. The state government has increased the pension being given to the elderly, widows, AIDS patients, handloom workers and toddy tappers from Rs. 200 to Rs 2,016 per month; pension to differently-abled was increased from Rs. 500 to Rs 3,016 per month; pension to single women, beedi workers and filarial patients would be Rs. 2,016 per month.
“It is no exaggeration to say that the golden age of welfare is ushered in by the TRS government. The government has reduced the age limit for Aasara pensions from 65 to 57. There was a delay in implementation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is decided that the reduced age limit will be made operational from the next financial year. For Aasara pensions, the government proposes an outlay of Rs. 11,728 crores,” said the minister.

Aasara Pension Scheme Launch
Aasara Pension Scheme was launched by the Telangana government on 8 November 2014 in Kothur in Mahboobnagar district. The welfare scheme provides pensions to old people, widows, patients suffering from elephantiasis, AIDS, physically disabled persons, beedi workers and single women. Earlier the age limit to apply was 65 years. But it was later changed to 57 in the year 2020 resulting in an increased number of beneficiaries.
In October 2019, the government had set up Aasara call centres under the supervision of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao at Khairatabad through which those with grievances could dial the phone numbers and lodge their complaints. The phone numbers were set up for 10 districts. The minister said that it would expand to other districts soon.
The welfare scheme has not had a good run ever since its launch in 2014. Many reports of pensions not being given on time or no pension at all have surfaced in various media reports. Recently on 28 February 2022, around three hundred people protested about the uncoordinated handling of the welfare pension scheme. According to the protestors, many who are eligible for the scheme have been running from pillar to post but in vain.

Aasara pension scheme is meant to protect the most vulnerable sections of society in particular the old and infirm, people with HIV-AIDS, widows, incapacitated weavers and toddy tappers, who have lost their means of livelihood with growing age, in order to support their day to day minimum needs required to lead a life of dignity and social security. Below is the complete process to apply online for Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme:-

- At the homepage, concerned officials can make login using the username and password :-
- Upon making login, the concerned authorities can fill the Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme application form to enroll persons for pension scheme.
Identification Of Eligible Persons For TS Aasara Pension
- The application will be received by the gram panchayat secretary/village revenue officer in the rural area and bill collector in the urban area
- The above-mentioned officials are responsible for verifying the applications and certifying them
- The scrutinizing procedure will be carried by designated Mandal Parishad Development Officer/municipal commissioner/deputy/zonal commissioner and they will sanction them pension based on the guidelines given to them from time to time
- For each Panchayat Mandal and municipality, the data as per the household survey, the census population figure, and percentage for old age widows and handicapped will be kept in mind besides ensuring equity among various social categories like scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, backward class, etc
- If any person has provided some incorrect details in order to get a pension then disciplinary action will be initiated and the amount paid to them will be recovered
Objective Of TS Aasara Pension
The main objective of the TS Aasara Pension is to provide financial support to old, disabled, HIV patients, and single women so that they can support their families without going to work. Through the implementation of this scheme, the financial conditions of the people will improve which will ultimately bring improvement in the living standard of these people.
Revised Pension Amount
The government of Telangana has implemented TS Aasara Pension after bringing about some amendments. Under these amendments, the pension amount of beneficiaries is increased. The details of the pension amount are as follows:-

Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme
There are different eligibility criteria that has finalized for the different group of beneficiaries which is available under the Telangana Aasara pension scheme :-
For Old Age-
- The age should be 65 years and above.
- The applicant must belong to primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Groups
- Only one pension in a family, preferably women is eligible.
- Landless agriculture laborers, rural artisans/craftsmen slum dwellers, persons earning their livelihood on daily basis in the informal sector like porters, coolies, rickshaw pullers, hand cart pullers, fruit/flower sellers, snake charmers, rag pickers, cobblers, destitute and other similar categories irrespective of rural or urban areas are also eligible.
- Homeless, houseless households residing in temporary informal establishments or huts especially in urban areas are eligible.
- Households headed by widows or terminally ill persons/disabled persons /persons aged 65 years or more with no assured means of subsistence or societal support are also eligible.
For Widow-
- The age of the widow must be above 18 years.
- The applicant must belong to primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Groups
For Weavers-
- The age of the weaver must be above 50 years.
- The applicant must belong to primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Groups
- Only one pension in a family can avail of the pension.
- By profession, a person should be in weaving, irrespective of rural or urban areas
For Toddy Tappers-
- The age of the applicant must be above 50 years.
- The applicant must belong to primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Groups
- By profession, the person should be in Toddy Tapping, irrespective of rural or urban areas.
- For Toddy tapper pensions the verification should be confirmed whether the beneficiary is a registered member in the Co-Operative Society of Toddy Tappers.
For Disabled Person-
- A person of any age can apply for the scheme.
- The applicant must belong to primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Groups

Aadhaar Seeding Under TS Aasara Pension
The payments will be made biometrically subject to the following conditions:-
- Aadhar number is available for beneficiaries they will be immediately seeded for enabling biometric authentication best payment through the Aadhaar enabled payment system
- Where the Aadhar number is not available then they shall secure one with the help of the local administration
- For the payment either best fingerprint detection or error IRIS authentication will be used
- Those cases where patients are bedridden or upper extremities are affected worse than the pension will be disbursed by a gram panchayat secretary or bill collector using his own biometrics
Sanction Of Pension Amount And Issue Of Pension Card
- Assess the recommendation report and correlate it with the SKS survey data.
- Identify the poorest of the poor among the verified list covering all social categories.
- Special care will be taken so that no eligible beneficiary is left out.
- After that the data will be entered in the Aasara software.
- The data will also be submitted to the district collector.
- After getting the final approval by the district collector the pension cards will be distributed to the relevant beneficiaries by affixing the photo of the beneficiary.
- The gram panchayat is required to maintain register a and register b in which it will be specified the existing pensioners and those who are eligible but not have been considered for the pension.
Procedure To Search Pensioner Detail
- Open the official website of Aasara, Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty
- From the home page of the website you need to select the “quick search” option
- It will show “Search Pensioner Details” option further
- Click on it and a new page will appear where you need to enter the asked details such as
- Pensioner ID/ SADAREM ID
- District
- Mandal
- Panchayat
- Name
- Head of The Family
- Click search option and information will appear on the screen
Telangana Aasara Pensions Scheme Rules for Exclusion
The persons belonging to the households fulfilling 1 or more of the following condition’s listed below shall not be eligible for Social Security Pensions (Aasara Pensions Scheme) in Telangana:-
- Having land more than 3.0 acres wet / irrigated dry or 7.5 acres dry.
- Having children who are Government / Public sector / Private sector employment / Out-sourced / contract.
- People having children who are doctors, contractors, professionals and self employed.
- Having large business enterprise (oil mills, rice mills, pumps, rig owners, shop owners etc.)
- People who are already receiving Government pensions or freedom fighter pensions.
- Owners of light and/or heavy automobiles (four wheelers and big vehicles).
- Any other criterion in which the verification officer may assess by the manner of lifestyle, occupation and possession of assets rendering the household as ineligible.
- Annual household income is more than Rs. 1.50 lakhs in rural areas and Rs. 2 lakhs in urban areas.
Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme Category List (21) of Persons With Disabilities
Telangana govt. has brought 14 more categories of specially abled people under Aasara Pension Scheme. Previously, the Aasra Pension Scheme beneficiary list included only 7 categories of persons with disabilities (PWDs). All the beneficiaries gets pension of Rs. 3,016 per month under Aasara Pension Scheme. The state govt. has constituted medical boards to examine and issue disability certificates based on parameters and symptoms prescribed under Right of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Although the center had included 14 new categories in Right of PWD Act 2016, framing of guidelines took a lot of time. Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme provides pensions to old people, widows, Goud community, elephantiasis patients, AIDS afflicted people, physically disabled and beedi workers.
As per the central govt. guidelines, some of these 14 new categories of specially abled people are eligible for reservations in employment and education. Moreover, some people coming under these new categories for persons with disabilities are eligible for pre and post matric scholarships, marriage incentives, social security pensions and economic rehabilitation.
